Distributed Bio's Human Antivenom Project Featured in Outside Magazine

May 21, 2019

Distributed Bio has been working on a project in poisonous snake antivenom research using antibodies from self-immunizer Tim Friede, helmed by scientist Ray Newland. Our work caught the attention of Outside Magazine, so last winter we flew Tim out to our office in South San Francisco from his home in Wisconsin. Representing Outside Magazine, a writer from Santa Fe, Kyle Dickman and a local San Francisco photographer, Peter Prato also joined us to document our story. They wrote up a great article which is available online and in print. Every year, snakes kill between 80,000 and 130,000 people and claim 400,000 limbs through amputation. The people most affected by this live in third world countries. We hope to discover a universal antivenom that can stymie this neglected tropical disease and help save many lives.
